Nockamixon Township Board of Supervisors

Work Session Meeting – October 1, 2009

The work session meeting for Nockamixon Township Board of Supervisors was opened at 7:30 P.M. on Thursday, October 1, 2009 by Chairperson Nancy Janyszeski. In attendance were Supervisors Henry Gawronski and Albert Santopietro. Also in attendance were Keith DeLuca, Township Treasurer, local residents Bill Sadow and John MacFarland

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairperson Janyszeski; tonight’s meeting will focus on the budget.

Supervisor Santopietro states that he would like to start this session by cutting all non essential expenses and then add only those that are needed. He will ask the road department and the office staff to see what they can cut back on. One suggestion is to furnish the road crew with T-shirts and a $300.00 clothing allowance in place of uniform rentals. Another suggestion is to reduce the salt content in our winter mix (gravel & sand).

The Treasurer reports that he is currently receiving quotes from other insurance companies for our property and casualty insurance, but notes he is having problems since our contract runs from May to May, and the companies will not give quotes out that far in advance. Mr. Sadow suggests receiving quotes in time for the reorganization meeting, make a decision on which one to accept and make the change in May when our contract expires.

The board instructs the Treasurer to find a way to lower the health insurance costs, either by increasing co-pay, raise deductibles or having employees pay a portion of the premiums. Chairperson Janyszeski notes that since the township employees will not receive a raise in 2010 the difference might be enough to offset the annual increase. However the Treasurer is still directed to reduce the health insurance premiums.

The board would like to search for a different auditor. The board suggests that an announcement be posted on the township web site.

Consolidate all post office boxes to one Township post office box.

Chairperson Janyszeski instructs Treasurer to investigate the costs for other web site hosts. Also can we find what needs to be done to be able to scan into a PDF file?

A motion is made by Supervisor Santopietro and seconded by Supervisor Gawronski to adjourn the meeting at 9:30 P.M. Motion carried 3-0-0.
