Nockamixon Township Board of Supervisors Work Session Meeting – September 24, 2009
The work session meeting for Nockamixon Township Board of Supervisors was opened at 7:30 P.M. on Thursday, September 24, 2009 by Chairperson Nancy Janyszeski. In attendance were Vice Chairperson Bruce Keyser, Supervisors Henry Gawronski and Albert Santopietro. Also in attendance were Keith DeLuca, Township Treasurer, Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, Presidents and representatives from Del Val, Ottsville, Riegelsville and UBE Fire Companies, as well as members of UBREMS. Supervisor Litzenberger was not in attendance this evening.
After the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairperson Janyszeski, she welcomed and thanked all of the fire companies and UBREMS for attending and being part of tonight’s discussion. Chairperson Janyszeski addresses the audience and states that the purpose of tonight’s meeting is to discuss future allocations to the fire companies and the possibility of instituting a Fire Tax, how to go about that and what that means to the budget.
Discussion begins with Chief Rimmer, Ottsville Fire Company, informing the Board that the Fire Companies had met prior to tonight’s meeting to discuss the current allocations. At that meeting they had agreed upon the following allotment: Ottsville – 65%; Riegelsville – 27%; Upper Black Eddy – 7%; Delaware Valley – 1%. This would be for all future money coming from the Township. All the reps in attendance were in accord with that and added that they would sign an agreement to the fact with the ability to change the allotment if in the future, boundaries were to change. The overall sentiment of the Fire Companies and UBREMS is not the allocation, which they are all in agreement with, but that they would like the Township to increase the total amount of the donations that are given to the Fire Companies and UBREMS. The Supervisors acknowledge the fact that the Fire Companies and UBREMS are in need of increased funding, Nockamixon, like other townships in the area, are also having funding issues. A Fire Tax and/or a Local Services Tax would give the Township the funds to provide the emergency services more money.
The Consensus of the Board is 3 Mils for Fire & .5 Mils for UBREMS.
Next up for discussion is Local Services Tax. Maximum LST is $52.00 per employee employed in Nockamixon Township. Supervisors instruct the Treasurer to find out how many people work in Nockamixon Township. Also what can it be used for?
A motion is made by Chairperson Janyszeski and seconded by Supervisor Gawronski to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 P.M. Motion carried 4-0-0.
Respectfully Submitted, Keith R. DeLuca Treasurer
