The Upper Bucks Business Expo and Home Show

is just 2 weeks away and the Expo Committee is working hard to promote the event!

This year’s theme “Keep the BUCK$ in BUCKS” has never been more relevant! Buying local is the core foundation of what helps our community thrive, so this year’s event is centered around the 3/50 Project, a novel concept developed by Cinda Baxter, retail consultant and blogger, and like many good thoughts and ideas…it has spread all over the country to communities just like Upper Bucks. In connection with the chamber’s charge and desire to help local businesses grow and prosper, the UBCC has signed on to this movement and we are excited to anticipate the rewards it will bring right here in our own backyard. The 3/50 Project concept is simple and perfectly matched to our theme for the 2010 Business EXPO & Home Show. As a consumer of many products, all you need to do individually or from your own business is to commit to buying from your local businesses. First, choose three businesses in your local community that you personally want to help see grow and commit to spend a total of $50.00 each month between those 3 businesses. For every $100 spent at independents, $68 comes back through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. At national chains, the return falls to $43. Spend it online and nothing comes home. Like author Malcom Gladwell writes in his best-selling book, The Tipping Point, "… little changes can somehow have big effects." The tipping point is the time just before boiling when everything takes off. How great it will be to see this movement take shape here. Results from other markets have been significant and we have everything to gain by embracing the change and starting our own tipping point
