Nockamixon Township Board of Supervisors Work Session Meeting – September 23, 2010
The Nockamixon Township Board of Supervisors work session meeting, which was advertised in January 2010, was opened at 7:30 P.M. on Thursday, September 23, 2010 by Chairperson Nancy Janyszeski. In attendance were Vice Chairman Bruce Keyser, Supervisors Carl Bahnck, Bill Sadow and Albert Santopietro. Also in attendance are Steve Baluh, Township Engineer and George Housworth, Township Roadmaster.
After the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairperson Janyszeski, the Supervisors immediately go into an executive session at 7:30.
The Board of Supervisors return from executive session at 7:35. Chairperson Janyszeski announces that the purpose of the executive session was to discuss litigation and declares that the remainder of the meeting will be to discuss Township bridges. The Chair recognizes Mr. Steve Baluh, Township Engineer.
Mr. Baluh gives the Board an update on the state of the Township bridges as determined by PennDOT. Discussion begins with the “Scour Critical Bridge Plan of Action” required by the State, to which the township has complied and submitted a plan of action to PennDOT. He then turns his attention to a packet that he has prepared and distributed to the Township Supervisors. The packet contains a bridge location map and a list that identifies and addresses the conditions of these bridges. There are multiple issues and they have been arranged by priority. The critical issues pertain to reduction of weight and have been resolved by reposting the listed bridges. The replacement of guide rails is also a high priority. Guide rails on 4 of 5 Township bridges need to be replaced since they do not meet current DOT standards. Some of the bridges need additional work to be in compliance with the state. The Board proposes to allot $25,000.00 per year from the road improvement fund to bring bridges up to code, after the Treasurer confirms the account balance. Mr. Baluh advises the board to accept the proposal from Ludwig Engineering to design and prepare construction drawings to repair bridge #2. The Board will make a motion to authorize $3,500.00 for the report at the October Board of Supervisors meeting.
The Board requests that Mr. Baluh be present for the October Board of Supervisors meeting.
A motion was made to adjourn the work session meeting at 9:00 PM by Chairperson Janyszeski and seconded by Supervisor Bahnck. The motion carries 5-0-0.
Respectively Submitted,
Keith R. DeLuca Township Treasurer |
